How to change DNS records at cPanel (generic)

Where the DNS settings live

1. Log in to cPanel (usually yourdomain.com/cpanel or a link from your host).
2. Under the Domains section click Zone Editor.
3. Click Manage next to the domain to see all records.

Adding a record

1. Click Add Record (or the quick buttons: Add A Record, Add CNAME Record, Add MX Record).
2. Fill in Name — cPanel expects the fully-qualified name, so it will append your domain automatically. Check the preview before saving.
3. Set the TTL (14400 is the cPanel default) and the record value.
4. Click Add Record.

Editing or deleting a record

1. Click Edit on the record row, change the value, and click Save Record.
2. Click Delete and confirm to remove a record.

Changing the nameservers

1. cPanel cannot change nameservers — that happens at the registrar.
2. Editing the cPanel zone has no effect unless the domain's nameservers point at this server.

cPanel (generic) nameservers

These are the values you would set at your registrar to let cPanel (generic) run your DNS. Always confirm them in your own account — several providers assign per-account values.

After you save

DNS changes are not instant. Resolvers keep the old answer until the previous record's TTL expires, so a record with a 4-hour TTL can take 4 hours to change everywhere — occasionally longer if an ISP ignores TTLs. Check what the world currently sees before assuming something is broken, and see the troubleshooting page if it still looks wrong after the TTL has passed.
